This is my first variation of the Foreplay kit. The components are all about the same as the stock kit. I found a cool looking power transformer but it turned out it would not operate at 60 Hz, so the actual PT is underneath. I thought it looked pretty cool and without it, I had a big hole in the top plate, so I just left it there.
I wanted the RCA jacks on the back and was expecting to hear some induced noise because of the unshielded wires running the length of the chassis. None heard! Maybe this little success was the result of a full metal chassis that blocks out most RF. Some parts are slightly different values (but pretty close), I just used what I had around the shop and it worked out fine.
I had a strange hum when I would touch the Volume control. A little searching on the BottleHead forum and I found that I was not the only one having this problem. The fix: Running a separate ground wire to the pot eliminated this problem.
